this was 6 or 7 years ago now, but i still think about it all the time.
first time either of us had made mochi, me and laurie failed completely. i don't remember how, just that what came out was definitely not mochi.
then we spent like an hour cleaning flour off everything, the counter, the floor, the handles, even in her hair. we kept finding it for days after.
honestly i think they were the best mochi i've ever had. even if they were inedible, just for that moment, they were the best.
i didn't even realize it at the time, that's the part that gets me now. it was already the best day and i was right in the middle of it, laughing, wiping flour off a cupboard, no idea.
nobody tells you while it's happening.
